The Harthill Seminars : Insight into Action

These Harthill Seminars have a deliberate focus on enabling leaders in organisations to learn how to act in ways that support the transformation of themselves as leaders, their teams and their organisations. We will provide intellectually rigorous input, stimulating and lively debate with some of the best leaders in the UK today and a light-hearted touch that will ensure you go away enlivened and encouraged.

Grounded Strategy: Leading Common Sense Transformation

• New dates in 2008 to be announced
• We can also deliver the seminar in your organisation

A successful strategy does more than turn the handle on profit – it envisions a future that has meaning for the leaders and staff of an organisation and focuses their energies and capabilities in converting aspiration into actions that they are proud of.

Harthill has developed a powerful approach that enables organisations to develop, articulate and implement strategy in a way that is profoundly creative and deeply grounded in the realities of the current context, in their relationships, and with their deepest sense of who they are as leaders. This grounding forms the basis for new possibilities out of which they weave their strategic actions.

Harthill’s process involves the radically participative development of strategy, an engaging (hearts-and-minds) approach that starts small and grows until it touches the whole organisation. It addresses the development of leadership capabilities and of a culture for ongoing renewal and action.

In this seminar we will:

• engage you in exploring the underpinning assumptions of this unique approach
• identify the required conditions for success
• give you deep insight into the process,
• in true Harthill style we will be truthful about the highs, lows, risks and benefits

Led by Matthew Hancocks who has been working at the leading edge of strategic transformation for many years as researcher, practitioner, consultant and collaborator. And David Rooke who is author of award winning HBR article ‘Seven Transformations of Leadership’ and the book ‘Personal & Organisational Transformations’. He has been consulting with leaders and executive teams for more than 30 years.

Leadership Beyond the Conventional: 5 days in two modules with coaching between modules
Offered only in single organisations or as a collaboration between two or more organisations (please contact us for a conversation about the benefits of this approach)
Aimed at practicing managers and leaders who confidently use their authority to deliver results; they have mastered the core skills of leading yet have an emergent sense that there is more to the art of leading than is currently within their grasp. Typically they want to explore what increased effectiveness might look like from a different perspective.
When Jim Collins (in Good to Great) carried out his research into 1450 companies and identified the 11 that had performed best over a 15 year period he discovered all 11 were led by leaders who were described as having ‘Strategic’ or ‘Alchemist’ action logics. This programme develops a type of thinking and ability to learn from experience that is typical of these ‘post-conventional’ action logics. The key leadership issues of power, timely action, leading in a complex environment, language as a form of action and inquiry based learning are all addressed.
