Hailing from Galway in the West of Ireland, Nial is passionate about human development and enjoys his work as a developmental facilitator and coach. He has worked as a consultant and executive coach for over two decades, spanning one-to-one executive coaching, leadership development, team coaching, and group development facilitation. Having previously held senior leadership and executive positions across a 25-year corporate career, Nial establishes credibility and trust at executive level quickly.

He works with clients across Ireland, the UK, Europe, and the United States. His sectoral experience is diverse — retail, banking, engineering, technology, the public sector, and the charity sector — with a deepening specialisation in healthcare and medtech, where he co-facilitates the Vertical Leadership Development Programme at a leading Hospital organisation in New York and coaches founders and leadership teams in medical device and life sciences companies.

Nial authored and has taught the Vertical Leadership Development module on the Executive MBA at University of Galway for twelve consecutive years, and provides personal leadership and team development coaching to the University's BioInnovate Ireland programme. He is an LDP-authorised practitioner, the developmental instrument at the heart of Harthill's work, grounded in the Leadership Development Framework of David Rooke, Bill Torbert, and Susanne Cook-Greuter.

Nial holds an MSc in Executive and Business Coaching from the Smurfit Business School at University College Dublin, where his interest in adult development was first ignited through the work of Robert Kegan. Inspired by Rooke and Torbert's landmark HBR article, Seven Transformations of Leadership, he went on to train with David Rooke and later joined Harthill as a Director and co-owner.

His practice takes a person-centred, relational approach shaped by his Gestalt-based training with Peter Bluckert and the Cape Cod Institute, and is enriched by his long engagement with the writing and poetry of John O Donohue, David Whyte and others, which he weaves into his developmental work. He draws on a wide repertoire — working with unfinished business, changing habits and beliefs, self-awareness, emotional intelligence, mindfulness — so that each person can find what serves their individually unique journey. Nial is a member of the International Coaching Federation and of the division of Work and Organisational Psychology of the Psychological Society of Ireland.
